What is Retargetability?
Retargetable tools, such as IP Designer’s optimizing C-compiler, automatically change their behavior based on changes to the nML model. Essentially, retargetable tools behave as if they had been specifically created for the processor defined by the nML processor model, yet without any customization required. Immediate retargetability is the key to rapid exploration and optimization of ASIP architectures. That is, a retargetable tool set allows you to immediately determine the improvement in algorithmic performance for any given architectural modification.
With nML, architectural changes are easy to make, and with retargetability, the affect is immediately apparent.
"The key to compiler-friendly low-power DSP design is retargetable compilation technology. IP Designer enabled our new DSP to outperform other solutions not only in terms of power consumption and cost, but also by offering very efficient C programmability."
